Download Denise's radio interview with Rosemarie Milsom on ABC 1233 Newcastle discussing her battle with cancer and Steps To Survival.
In 2008 Denise was diagnosed with endometrial adenocarcinoma, the most common type of gynaecological cancer. After having a complete hysterectomy the odds were in her favour with a 95% cure rate.
However four months later Denise’s cancer returned as a rare and aggressive clear cell endometrial tumour with a poor prognosis.
By telling her story Denise wants to raise awareness of gynaecological cancers and outline the steps she took to give herself the best chance of beating the odds as she underwent major surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Denise draws on her psychology training to use evidence based strategies in her treatment and ultimate survival.
She speaks at a variety of community/health events to give hope and support to other women experiencing cancer. Denise also talks about the risk factors and symptoms associated with gynaecological cancers to help women become more aware of them, and seek medical advice sooner, if they notice any unusual and persistent changes in their bodies.Buy now
